25 years of solidarity:

The Jonathan Foundation's legacy continues

The Jonathan Foundation, a Quito-based nonprofit organization, celebrated its 25th anniversary in September 2025, marking a quarter-century of tireless social work serving children, seniors, and people in vulnerable situations in Ecuador.

As part of this significant commemoration, the Foundation held a moving mass in honor and memory of Jonathan Zambrano Avilés, the only son of founder Catalina Avilés Valdivieso, whose tragic passing inspired this noble mission 25 years ago. Jonathan dreamed of becoming a doctor to help others, and his legacy of solidarity and social commitment lives on through every action of the Foundation.

Distinctions for an exemplary career

During the celebration, the Jonathan Foundation received multiple and effusive recognitions for its invaluable career, highlighting its commitment to inclusion, social support, and the promotion of fair and equitable coexistence. Among the institutions that honored its work were:

  • The Prefecture of Pichincha: Awarded the "Libertadora Manuela Sáenz" Decoration in the "Tránsito Amaguaña" category to the Jonathan Foundation. This recognition underscores its social work in support of priority groups in the province. The Prefect of Pichincha, Paola Pabón, and the Provincial Council highlighted the figure of the Executive President, Catalina Avilés, as a model of solidarity and inspiration.

  • The Metropolitan Council of Quito (Sandra Victoria Hidalgo Espinel): Presented a Recognition and Congratulations to the Foundation and Catalina Avilés for their valuable career in helping those most in need and for being a "beacon of humanity, commitment, and solidarity" in the city.

  • The Culture of Peace Foundation Ecuador - National Peace Program: Expressed warm greetings and congratulations to the Jonathan Foundation and its Executive President, Catalina Avilés, on their 25th Anniversary and their noble mission serving the highest ideals of children and seniors in Ecuador.

  • Other organizations, such as CERES, also joined in these expressions of appreciation for the Foundation's work.

A legacy that continues

The Jonathan Foundation, which implements social projects such as specialized medical care, therapies, and its "Jonathan Quito Food Bank" to reduce chronic childhood malnutrition and ensure food security, reaffirms its commitment.

Jonathan's dream, transformed into this great social project, remains stronger than ever. The Jonathan Foundation will continue to support and improve the quality of life of thousands of people in vulnerable situations, extending a helping hand and strengthening the social fabric of the community in the years to come.
